An evening trip from Mestia to where Svaneti shows its true beauty at sunset.
We leave Mestia around 18:00–19:00 and drive up to Gvaldi Pass. Here you can settle in with a blanket, a folding chair, bring snacks and drinks, and spend several hours surrounded by mountains.
From the pass, you can see several of Svaneti's iconic landmarks all at once:
• Mulahi village — one of the most densely packed areas of traditional Svan towers in the region • the Mulkhura river valley • the Tetnuldi massif • the legendary Ushba peak • glaciers and valleys stretching toward Chaladi
But the real magic begins as sunset approaches.
Clouds gradually glow with warm light, slopes and glaciers seem to literally shine, and the mountain relief becomes especially three-dimensional. This is one of those places where you don't want to rush — you just want to watch, photograph, and wait for the light to transform everything.
