The cheapest way into Svaneti — marshrutka schedules from four cities, pickup points on the map, and an honest note on why marshrutkas don't run like scheduled buses.
The marshrutka (shared minibus) is the cheapest way into Svaneti. Daily departures connect Mestia with Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Batumi. Tickets are bought on the spot before departure, cash only.
In high season, get to the pickup point early — the marshrutka can leave earlier than the posted time once every seat is taken.
Marshrutka schedule to Mestia
Tbilisi → Mestia (8–10 hours)
- 07:00 — from Samgori station
- 07:30 — from the Central Railway Station
Kutaisi → Mestia (5–6 hours)
- 07:30 and 10:00 — from the bus station near McDonald's
Zugdidi → Mestia (3–4 hours)
- 12:00 and 15:00 — from the Svan Tower; also pickup near the railway station
Batumi → Mestia (6–8 hours)
- 15:00 — direct marshrutka from the lower cable car station near Machakhela restaurant, Baku str. 8 — high season only
Off-season, there's no direct marshrutka from Batumi — you'll need to connect via Zugdidi. Marshrutkas from Batumi to Zugdidi leave roughly every hour from 08:00, from the old bus station.
Reader-submitted tip (not independently verified by us, but worth sharing): Batumi → Zugdidi departures at 7:00 and 9:10, around 20 GEL, dispatcher David, phone +995593163463 (working hours until early afternoon). For the 9:10 arrival, the connecting Zugdidi → Mestia marshrutka leaves at 12:00–12:30; the next one only runs at 15:00 if 12 passengers show up.

One-way price, per person — the return trip from Mestia costs the same:
- Tbilisi ↔ Mestia — 60 GEL
- Kutaisi ↔ Mestia — 45 GEL
- Zugdidi ↔ Mestia — 35 GEL
- Batumi ↔ Mestia — 60 GEL

Marshrutkas to Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Batumi depart:
- 08:00 — daily
- 12:00 — an extra departure if enough passengers show up
If you're connecting to a train or flight, build in a buffer — travel time depends on road and weather conditions.
Marshrutka or a transfer?
